Draft Wheelchairs part of Josh Cassidy plans for a competitive 2012
As revelers all across Canada were counting down the clock to 2012 and making their New Year’s resolutions, Paralympian Josh Cassidy was doing the same.
However, Josh was not in a bar or out on the street with friends, he was stripped to the waist, working up a sweat on his training rollers in the gym in his condo, Lakeside Toronto. The man with his heart set on London Paralympic Gold counted down the last seconds of 2011 alone, hammering out every last ounce of his energy on the battered push rims of his Draft high tech racing wheelchair.
Said Cassidy, “Whilst everyone was partying and all my friends and competitors were having a great time, I wanted to be inside bashing out an extra workout to bring in 2012 and work on my new year’s resolutions, as the clock struck 12, for 2012”. Cassidy added, “With 2012 being Paralympic Games year, the dawning of the new year focused my mind on the countdown to London. I must really discipline myself if I am to reach my gold medal(s) resolution.”

The video shows a one minute countdown to the new year with video footage of Josh sweating it out on his rollers cut in with footage of him competing on the track and with New Year’s Eve revelers. As the clock strikes 12 and party revellers kiss to Auld Lang Syne, Cassidy is seen in lactic overload, pushing his honed body to his new personal best. Said Cassidy “I think the video shows quite clearly what the new year means to everybody and for me; particularly in terms of my athletic ambition”.
