The safest bicycle tyre for most purposes is the “flat-less†tire Marathon Plus. This tyre incorporates a SmartGuard belt, made out of highly elastic special rubber, which is
approx. 5mm thick. The decisive advantage of SmartGuard® is its effectiveness against objects that become lodged in the tread, that are rolled over at each turn of the wheel and will eventually penetrate virtually any protection belt. This is where the advantage of SmartGuard comes into effect.
For example a thumbtack, can become embedded in the rubber without causing any damage. The new “High Density Guard†works on a different principle of functionality. Using a patented weaving technology, an extremely close-meshed and dense fabric is produced. This belt is incredibly hard to puncture. No other bicycle tire features such a similar dense fabric.

With High Density Guard it is now possible for the first time to effectively protect very light tires from punctures.
Additional steps to prevent a puncture
- The best and most important protection against punctures is a high quality tyre with a good puncture belt.
- Maintain the correct inflation pressure. If the inflation pressure is too low, the risk of punctures is substantially higher.
- Check and correct the inflation pressure at least once a month with a pressure gauge.
- It also helps to check the tyre for embedded foreign objects and to remove them.
- Replace worn tyres.
