FreeWheel
Detailed Description
FreeWheel = Freedom
The FreeWheel is your ticket to safely and quickly rolling on any type of terrain and not worrying about bumps in the pavement, grass, dirt, stones, mud or snow.
It is the MUST HAVE piece of adaptive equipment for manual wheelchair users.
In seconds, it quickly and securely clamps to the solid footrest of your rigid-frame manual chair. Once attached, the FreeWheel gently lifts your front casters off the ground turning you into a 3-wheel, all-terrain chair.
Not only does the FreeWheel make it easier to push yourself, it makes it easier for anyone who is pushing you and you'll feel much more secure being pushed.
The FreeWheel comes with all you need to set it up on your chair. The initial installation may take approximately 15 min., after which the FreeWheel clamps on in seconds. When you are not using the FreeWheel you can store it on the perch supplied for the back of your chair. (3/4" diameter tube as standard, other sizes available at extra cost).
It will be the best money you ever spent on a piece of adaptive equipment that opens up your world.
Standard Features
Frame/Fork
Made from strong, aircraft quality aluminium. The unique patented design adds strength and means there are no sharp edges to catch on anyone or anything.
Clamp
The precisely engineered vice-like connection allows you to confidently attach your FreeWheel for a secure fit and excellent handling. However, we recommend that the FreeWheel is only used on rigid frame chairs with rigid footplate. Re-inforcement may be needed on the footplate. Please call for advice.
Wheel
The large front wheel has less rolling resistance than small casters and makes it easier on any surface, whether you are alone, or someone is helping you.
Detent
This mechanism helps keep the front wheel straight to improve stability and handling. By applying slight pressure, it will release, allowing you to quickly and easily turn in any direction.
Perch
Attach the included perch onto your (3/4" diameter) crossbar behind your seat back and clamp your FreeWheel onto it when you need to stow it. This allows you to have your FreeWheel at your finger tips and keeps it out of the way when you don't. Your FreeWheel can be with you 24/7 so you can be ready for anything.
Restrictions
The FreeWheel works on solid rigid-frame footrests that are a maximum of 4-3/4" off the ground. Custom frame FreeWheels are available for higher footplates.
If your footrest is "angled" (footrest higher in front than in the back) it must be angled no more than 12 degrees for the FreeWheel to clamp securely to your chair.
Using a FreeWheel may invalidate your chair's manufacturer's warranty in the event of any footplate failure.
Please contact us if you have any questions regarding the height or angle of your footrest.
